Maximum performance for large volumes of water
The EWT Type 500 membrane electrolysis system is the most powerful unit in the EWT portfolio and continuously produces up to 500 g of highly effective hypochlorous acid per hour from natural salt. Like the Type 250, it features a free-hanging cell mounted on a freestanding, factory-assembled steel frame, which significantly reduces on-site installation effort.
The system is connected to both the pool water and a fresh water line. The fresh water is used exclusively for production and is softened to 0 to 1° dH via a separate water softener; a pressure reducer lowers the inlet pressure to 1 bar to maintain constant conditions in the electrolysis cell. A pre-installed chlorine gas sensor ensures additional operational safety, and the hydrogen produced is vented to the outside in a controlled manner.

Water Softening & Automatic Brine Generation
Incoming fresh water is softened to 0–1° dH by a separate water softener and processed into a saturated brine solution in the 210-liter storage tank using high-purity evaporated salt. Under continuous operation, up to 50 kg of salt is used per day.

Electrochemical Splitting
The brine is fed into the free-hanging membrane cell. Under precise direct current supply and strict spatial separation by the membrane, highly pure, germicidal hypochlorous acid is produced—up to 500 g of active chlorine per hour at a flow rate of 600 l/h.

Safe Injection
Using the injector principle, fresh active chlorine is introduced directly into the main flow of pool water. The suction is continuously monitored; if the flow falls below a minimum level, production shuts off automatically.

How often does the salt need to be refilled in a Type 500 membrane electrolysis system?
The Type 500 consumes up to 50 kg of salt per day in continuous operation. Thanks to the larger 210-liter salt dissolution tank, which holds up to 175 kg of salt, it does not need to be refilled daily despite the high throughput.
What is the difference between the Type 500 and the Type 250?
Both models share the same design, featuring a free-hanging cell mounted on a freestanding steel frame and a fresh water connection. With 500 g of active chlorine per hour, the Type 500 offers twice the rated capacity of the Type 250, a larger salt dissolver tank (210 liters instead of 90 liters), and a higher electrical connection capacity (5.0 kVA instead of 2.3 kVA).
Does the water smell like chlorine during membrane electrolysis?
Precise dosing prevents the formation of combined chlorine (chloramines), which is responsible for the typical pungent swimming pool odor. This makes the indoor environment significantly more pleasant, especially in large, heavily used indoor swimming pools.

Does the Type 500 require a fresh water connection?
